This tool uses the Web Speech API which is only supported in Chrome (desktop). Other browsers will not work.

How it works

Click the microphone button to start recording. The tool uses the browser's built-in Web Speech API to stream audio from your microphone and convert it to text in real time. Interim results (in gray italic) show the current phrase being recognized; they become final text when Chrome confirms the transcription. Click the mic again to stop.

Tips for better accuracy

  • Speak clearly and at a natural pace — avoid rushing words together.
  • Use a headset or a close microphone to reduce background noise.
  • Pause briefly between sentences; Chrome uses pauses to finalize phrases.
  • This tool only supports English (US).

Saving your transcript

Use Copy to copy the full transcript to your clipboard, or Download .txt to save it as a plain-text file. Transcripts accumulate across multiple recording sessions in the same page visit — starting and stopping the mic appends new speech rather than overwriting. Use Clear to reset.

Browser support

The Web Speech API is currently only supported in Google Chrome (desktop). Firefox, Safari, and other browsers do not implement the API. No extension or plugin is required — Chrome supports it natively.

Privacy

Audio processing is handled by Chrome and Google's speech recognition service. Your audio is sent to Google for transcription — this is a Chrome browser feature, not something this tool controls. No data is stored or logged by this site.
